I am glad this has started and hope more people think about sharing. I hope more knapp men submit DNA to a study such as I have with familytree dna. i have used my knapp uncle's dna and several have made an exact match. nothing new found but hopeful. would be good for others to share knapp and related old biographies too. I am out of the NIcholas KNapp line. Enos KNapp born 1744 died 1824 Old Greenwich, CT

Hi,
I am from the Zophar Knapp line. Zophar was born in 1819 in Broome County NY and moved to Lisbon ND with wife Aurilla Chalker. Their son Louis Knapp was my grandfather and his son Arthur Knapp was my father. Other sons of Zophar were Edgar, Griffin, Dana among others.
We have a dilemma regarding who Zophar's parents were. The official Knapp line as published by A.Knapp says it was Nathaniel and Eunice Wright while a family bible in on ancestor's hands suggests it was Jacob Knapp and wife Lucretia. This makes it difficult to complete the line back to Nicholas Knapp. Anyone who can help in this is welcome to contact me.

Thanks in advance. Karen (Knapp) Bodnar

Hi,
Searching for descendants of: Peter Knapp b.abt.1790 NY mar.
Johanna Keiser b.abt. 1805, NJ >
Peter Knapp b. May 1844, PA mar. Amanda Knecht >
Earling B. Knapp b. Nov. 1866, Moosic, Luzerne Co., PA mar. Mary Rudolph >
James Arthur Knapp b. Jan. 1895, prob. Nuremburg, Schuylkill Co., PA
mar. Sadie Estelle Miller >
Ray Thomas Knapp b. 1919, Nuremburg, Schulkill Co., PA.
Think this line may be connected to Zephaniah Knapp (Rev.War) & son Joseph Knapp (War of 1812) who are buried in Methodist Cemetery, Duryea, Lackawanna Co., PA which is relative close proximity to where all above lived. If anyone is searching these same lines would love to hear from you. Thanks---

Hi! I'm Kate Knapp, daughter of Don Knapp, granddaughter of Harry Knapp, great-granddaughter of Vinton B. Knapp, who seems to be at the end of the line on the Nicholas Knapp geneology at Ancestry.com. I'll fill it in when I get a chance, but we get a bit sparse after Vinton B. Until I Googled his name recently, I knew nothing of the family prior to him and he was just a name to me. What a great surprise to be part of such a big, old, family! Glad I found you! Vinton - Wm Sylvanus - Timothy - Sylvanus - Amos, Sr - John, Sr - Samuel, Sr - Caleb, Sr - Nicholas.

Thank you for all your hard work in compiling this Knapp info.

I am from Clarinda Knapp's line > Calvin > Moses > Moses > John > Caleb > Nicholas.

Anyway I have had a hard time finding trustworthy data and your sharing the Knapp Myths were very helpful.

Hello Knapp family!! I am so excited that someone was brave enough to take on our family genealogy!!! Thank you for sharing all you have found. I home school my children and we have been trying to trace our family roots. Your web sight,Robb will be very helpful and I am very appreciative.
I have one question for you.... When trying to study out the Knapp lineage I seem to always end up with part of our family in a Jewish genealogy. Studying out WW2 and such my kids pose the question if we had relatives that died in the holocaust? If you have any information on this or if anyone else can add to this please do.
Feel free to call anytime. We would love to share what we know about the Knapp's.
Thank You, Tami Knapp Leaton;daughter of William D. Knapp

Tami, I haven't heard of Jewish ancestors, at least not in the Nicholas Knapp line. But it could be that I'm just making assumptions.

But if you want to work family into lessons, there's history here. Nicholas Knapp came from Suffolk, England on a ship of the Winthrop Fleet (which carried the pilgrims) in 1631. I haven't had a lot of time for research, but others have and I understand that he and his descendents are mentioned in a number of publications of the time. Also, there is a Uzal Knapp who appears to have served in George Washington's Lifeguard - the forerunner of the Secret Service.

I've found that Ancestry.com is a help, even without buying a membership. You can still do a limited search and you would be surprised at the number of Knapps they have listed.

I also think Knapp is a fairly international name. Way back, in high school (way back), I had a good friend whose name was also Knapp. But she was very Swedish. So there are probably many lines. And who knows? Maybe those lines are connected somewhere.

Thank you for incorporating family into your children's lessons. I wish more children had a sense of their own history.

Kate...thank you so much for the information. That is very cool. The reason I was asking about the WW2 is because my oldest daughter Brianna had one of her poems published and it was regarding the holocaust. The museum in Israel will allow her to post it on the wall there as a memorial. Our thinking is if we had family that died she would want to dedicate it to them as well as all the others.

Robb has listed a lot of Knapp's that came through Ellis Island. Like you said..it is hard to trace whether they are of our lineage.

Thank you again for getting back with me so quickly..maybe some day we could meet in person.:) You take care.

Tami asked about a Jewish connection. My ggg grandmother, Keren Happuch Philips - KNAPP was Jewish (and thus her children's 'Jewishness' if following the classic maternal reckoning). Annette Miner, who has a page of pictures on this database has some details about this. It is part of my family's oral tradition. I think there is likely a good deal of info about Keren's family in Athens County OH. And truly, she would have had forebears, remaining in Europe, who would have had descendents likely lost in the Holocaust.

Best regards,

I am trying to find any descendants of a NY architect named Horace Greeley Knapp.he was born in 1846 and died in 1924. He was married to Ella Onderdonk of Nyack, NY and had twin daughters Beatrice and Grace. It seems he was remarried about a year after they were born and then about 20 years after that. This part is confusing. His first marriage is solid.

Thanks
